Conducting success

Recently Glenn took up the baton to conduct Filton Concert Brass

GVL conducting Filton

The band participated at the Welsh Open and called in the help from Glenn as their conductor. The contest exists of an entertaining program and the band played a program they could handle very well.
They opened the contest with the bands conductor Tom Davorens arrangement of ‘Over the rainbow’. Than Glenn took the band straight into Peter Grahams ‘Phoenix’ from his ‘War of the Worlds’ suite.
After that there was time for a solo element, so the band decided to put their flugel player Tim Malpas on show in ‘South Loop’, again by the hand of Tom Davoren.
On a contest like this you’ll have to showcase the bands sound and slow playing aswel, this could be found in Stan Nieuwenhuis’ arrangement of ‘Bli Hos Oss’. To than finish off the program with ‘Fusion’ by Martin Cordner.

Glenn and the band took the first place and got some compliments from Ian Brownbill.

“The top two really produced dynamic, consistent music making and the rest of the top six were not far behind. I was also impressed by the standard of solo playing and conducting on show. The winning flugel soloist was excellent (Tim Malpas of Filton Concert) and the winners sounded so well rehearsed, balanced and musical. It may have been a nasty old day outside, but in the hall the audience enjoyed a fine day of music making” (Ian Brownbill to 4barsrest).

Meanwhile Glenn has been asked to do some other projects as the bands guest conductors. More info will follow soon!
